McCutie: So, she's serving food that Her mother used to serve her.
Me: No lah. She's serving food that her grandmother made for her. That's why the name of the place is Grandmama's.
McCutie: Yea, that's what I said. She's making food that her mum used to make for HER.
Me: No! She's one up-ed her mum with her grandmother's recipe. So should be better than her mum's!
McCutie: Aiyah, I'm right. I was saying that we're eating food that Madam Kwan's Mum used to make for her while she's growing up lah!
Me: Huh? It's confusing how your mind works.

One of the joys of my job is the generous amount of I time I spend at the malls. I'm there almost every day. Hence, it's no surprise that I eat within these malls very often too. There are, of course, plenty to choose from. Now, as great as that sounds, there comes a time when I finally run out of places to try within a single mall and I get bored. So, any new openings are most welcomed.
Which is why I was happy to find out that the hoardings that wrapped the corner lot where O Cha Cha used to be has finally came down and revealed a spanking new eatery. The place goes by the name of Grandmama's. It consist of an inner dining area with 2 private rooms and an opened area closer to T.G.I.F's. I like the decor here. Charming and nostalgic setting with a modern twist. The hanging lights and the beautiful tiles adds the much needed warmth to the to this corner of the mall.
A quick look at the menu, dishes like Nasi Bojari, Nasi Lemak, Mushroom & Chicken Rice, Fish Head Curry reminded us of another well-known establishment. Heck, even the captain looks rather familiar (from the Bangsar outlet?). A quick check with the waiter revealed that the place is in fact opened by none other than Madam Kwan's daughter. I guess producing good food must run within their blood.
Food arrived no more than 10 minutes after placing our orders. Perfect place for a quick lunch I'll say. I can see why the Sang Har Kuay Teow is their signature dish here. It was yummy despite the lack to thickness in its artery clogging gravy. And it was nothing like the regular Sang Har Meen that I've had before. Thin flat noodles were swimming in a bowl of prawn broth with floating roes! Indulging to say the least. As I looked over to McCutie's direction, I could tell that the Cantonese Yin Yong noodles were good too. Crispy fried noodles doused with a thick cloudy egg gravy. The texture is very much like the ones served at Madam Kwan. I like!
I love it when a simple meal turns out this satisfying. What's more is that the prices here aren't unlike its sister restaurant and the only thing missing (least right now) is the long queue right outside. That's a good thing for impatient customers like me. I hate to wait in line. I'm heading to Pavilion again this week, perhaps I'll have seconds at Grandmama's?
