It's the 15th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration and believe it or not, I've only managed to dig my chopsticks into 4 plate of Yue Sang. That's pretty pathetic. The lowest count so far in my entire life. How-lah is this monkey supposed to prosper at all in the coming year ? And to make matter's worst, 'four' is such an inauspicious number! Sei-lah!
How did I get myself into such a dumb situation? After all, aren't Yue Sang a dime a dozen (ok, Yue Sang generally do cost way more than a dime) during this time of year? Lemme see what when wrong. Firstly, CNY was just way too close to New Year's celebration this year and there were just simply not enough (working) time before CNY to start on the Yue Sang frenzy. Then came reunion dinner, as this year was a small affair with only my immediate family of 4, we decided to obmit this appetizer from the dinner table. I've also managed to miss the day where my entire company of 200-over employees tossed Yue Sang with the accompaniment of two golden Lion, which danced its way noisily through my entire office. Sucks to be me now doesn't it?
It was only well into the 4th day (there's the darn number again!) of CNY that I managed to savour a taste of my favourite festive dish. And toss I did with my colleagues. Yes, we were quite gung-ho on the whole higher toss and louder toast business! So embarrassing, but I enjoyed it joined in the frenzy nevertheless. There's just something about the wonderful colours of the dish, being toss communally, mixed in together with slivers of raw fish, tons of unhealthy crispies, and held together by a sweet-tangy plum sauce; that makes this truly an enjoyable dish . Now, who said Salads are not appetizing?!
The next three were tossed between with close friends. At Crystal Jade Pavilion with Kenny, CK and their adopted kid brothers; Liz & Ivan with Jules, Pau and an American in tow at Lucky Loke, and finally at Jack & Keith's place last night. They were all good in their own respective ways, but still they aren't enough to satisfy my hunger for another plate, let alone improve the health of my bank account. I guess I'll just have to rely on McCutie, who's had more Yue Sang than me this year, to make me rich.
With less than 24-hours remaining before the Yue Sang season is officially over, do you think there's still hope left for me to toss, at least, another ONE of this wealth-inducing salad? My hope's wearing thin. But, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
Happy Chap Goh Mei!
Ya, man... You and McCutie supposed to join us for another round of Loh Sang tonite... Ah well, we can work harder at the numbers next year? :)
ReplyDeletestop whining!!! there are people who fare less better than you do... for example, ME!!! I only tossed yee sang once this year... so does it mean that I'm gonna be broke?? Lol...
ReplyDeleteChap Goh Mei today... wish you and McCutie a great time together... before Valentine's this coming Saturday! ha ha!
Happy Cap Goh Meh!
ReplyDeleteLFB: Yeah, I know. There goes my chance for that one last toss. Oh well. Maybe next year. Hope your dinner went great with the Family.
ReplyDeleteThule: Haha. Well, considering that I usually have about 7 Yue Sangs a year, this is very little. And I really love the dish! Ok, perhaps I can feel a little better knowing that someone else fare worst than I do. LOL
You have a good Valentine's weekend with your lovely lou-por!
Selba: Same to u. Hope you feast well!
dude, all is not lost. get some salmon sashimi, lettuce, chips, honey mustard sauce and you'll get yue sang! :) ok, at least can tahan until 2010, right? :)
ReplyDeleteI want some more yue sang now...
ReplyDeleteWHAT??!! When was the plan changed? We agreed that YOOOUUU were going to make MEEEEE rich! With or without yue sang! LOL!
ReplyDeleteguffaw, hilarious post as usual. for some reason, that beyonce rules and the retort was almost worthy of gary larson...to me la.
ReplyDeleteNic: Sounds good. So, when can I come over and taste it? LOL
ReplyDeleteMcC: Yeah, perhaps we can go to Chinese restaurants and see if they're having some sort of clearance sale on Yue Sang, considering they're off season now.
And situation has changed since due to the world's economy and hence our deal will have to change too. More yue sang = more money. So u bring home the bacon and I'll make you rich with love.
