Today marks the 30-plus birthday of my dear friend Chiselstone. This year we celebrated his birthday earlier, in conjunction with the celebration of his newly renovated kitchen. Call it a kitchen-warming party if you must. And as such, I offered my fiery stove-heating skills for the grand occasion. This take-home-chef was back at work again.
Since it was the last few days of Chinese New Year, we (or rather I) decided that we should have a good ol' home-cooked Chinese meal. The menu consisted of every imaginable porky dish:
Pork Lard Cruton Snacks (Chee Yau Char)
Crunchy Cucumber Salad topped with Garlic and Lard
Oven-baked Lap Mei Fan (Waxed meat rice)
Mrs. FBB's Tau Yu Bak (Braised Pork Belly in Soy Sauce) with Egg and Beancurd Skin
Cold Chee Yau White Tofu with Onions
Stir fried French Beans with Caramalised Roasted Pork
Steamed Plain Mantao
How's that for an authentic Chinese meal? Only thing missing was Tong Yuan for dessert. We had FBB's Tim's Nuts and a crazy game of Taboo to compensate for its absence. Gotta love a cozy party like that.
Anyway, here's wishing Chiselstone a Happy Birthday and congrats on your new kitchen once again!
