It has been a hectic week putting up Christmas decors at the stores (yes, it's a lil early. Deal with it!). Most of the time, my job's pretty much a one man show. So it comes to no surprised that there will be days where I have to sit and eat all by myself. And that was the case last week at KLCC. There were no "family" members to have lunch with since I was in the heart of the city. Neither McCutie, Life for Beginners nor the Devil could join me. So there I was all alone, I decided to check out the newly opened Malones.

Operated by the same people behind successful chain-restaurants like T.G.I.Fridays and The Apartment, this new outlet is fashioned after traditional Irish pubs and offers an array of good pub grubs. And what's more exciting is that they serve a variety of European beers and Guinness on the tap too. Not that it matters to me. I don't drink anyway.
While many items on the menu looks promising, I zeroed in on the Mustard Baked Chicken (the Filipino or East Malaysian waitress shockingly mispronounced it with a straight face) which looked very good. This half-chicken dish marinated with whole grain mustard and whiskey is apparently very tasty and is one of their best sellers. But unfortunately for me, I will never know as the table diagonally across from me had the last portion for the day. Sighs, I swear I placed my order with my waitress first. As consolation, I settled for the waitress's recommended Sausages on Calcannon and Guiness Onion Gravy (RM28.90) after looking through the menu a few times over.
The menu described the dish as "Grilled beef and chicken jumbo sausages and steamed veal bratwurst..." I was surprised to see that the jumbo sausages were fried instead. And I am pretty sure that the two jumbo sausages were of the chicken kind. Where's the beef Malones? By then I was rather tired to start an argument and decided to just dig into my huge platter of sausages. While the sausages were nothing to shout about, I found the colcannon (traditional Irish mashed potatoes with white cabbage and spring onions) very smooth and went really well with the sweetish and tangy Guinness onion brown sauce.
Perhaps it would be biased if I solely judge Malones based on this one dish alone. Perhaps I could give it another try some other day. Maybe I might just find my happy ending with its highly sought after masturbate chicken (sic). After all, other bloggers like Sean of eatdrinkkl have tried and complimented on their other dishes. But I won't deny that I have my doubts if their grubs would ever be as authentic (read: Non-halal) as those served by more conventional Irish pubs like Finnegan's in KL or Muddy Murphy in Singapore. If it's any consolation, the pub boast a fantastic view of the KLCC park and you can enjoy the breeze on a good cloudy day in their al-fresco area. The service staffs were attentive too despite the explicit pronunciation. *Sniggers*

ReplyDeleteLOL.
ReplyDeleteSo were you wondering for a second what sort of unusual services this reataurant offers?
They ran out of Paulaners on tap when I was there too. Looks like "Sorry, sir, but we've run out of xxxx" is a regular phrase for the waitstaff. hehe.
ReplyDeleteu hear what u want to hear la :D
ReplyDeleteyeah, the sausages kinda look like they were bought from cold storage downstairs, huh...
btw i'm verrrry easy to please, so take that in mind whenever i recommend anything =)
At least there's something to look forward to try now in KLCC. That plc such a bore in terms of makan outlets!
ReplyDeleteSomehow or another, pub grub loses it's luster without the babi. Since alcohol is also sinful, why stop at that alone? Looking forward to wanker (wine cured) pork and tosser (tossed) ham, if ever it should ever grace Malones. LOL!
ReplyDeleteGUFFFFFFFFFFFFAW, sheeer genius!!!!mastar bate chickens that come only a few times a day!!!! SOOO SOOOO GOOOODDDD!!!!! i think you have secured the oscar for my favourite blog this year.
ReplyDeleteLOL. no masturbate chickens, but u got yourself some shriveled up sausages as consolation.
ReplyDeleteany cornier than this?
No masturbate chicken? Deal with it. One thing good about Christmas hitting the stores this early... one can always chill with a toffe nut latte :D
ReplyDeletei was looking at yr pics on flickr and KNEW almost immediately that it's gonna be a sex-related post. and i was right! hahaha! so creative la, you!
ReplyDeletewhat's next? mustard baked knuckles?
Guffaws at their mistake. We also had the sausages and mussels the other day for the dinner. Must admit I love their cards though. They sent me a bunch yesterday to announce their opening - very snappy words
ReplyDeleteHahaha, chicken that self-gratifies, a must-try!! I am quite excited about Malones, despite the absence of pork. KLCC's been an absolute dreadry bore in terms of drinking joints for a while now!
ReplyDeleteJoe: I really hope the patrons swallow and didn't spit it out
ReplyDeleteJ: Yeah, they were short of offering "Happy Endings"
BFF: Annoying isn't it? They might as well not claim that they serve it in the first place. Please send your royal enquirer and see if they can rectify the problem
Sean: Well, I couldn't tell if it was my ears or the accent
TNG: True true. That's why I always end up in Nando's or KFC when I'm there.
P.A: You have identified the missing link!
Ah PA: TQ TQ, should I start giving my thank you speech already? I wanna thank McCutie for "coming" out with joke.
J2KFM: Shriveled up sausages are a no no in my books. Like mine plump and juicy.
Chiselstone: Let's go ber-toffee Nut Latte....hmmmmmm
Nic: U spied on me?! Well least mine's not about Dim Sums!
Boo: What cards? Didn't see no call-cards. Maybe they give to selected clienteles only *sniggers*
500ml: Actually, KLCC's been dry on the food joints too. I'm always uninspired to eat there.
